Spitzer Images
Spitzer The Spitzer Space Telescope (formerly SIRTF, the Space Infrared Telescope Facility) was the final mission in NASA's Great Observatories Program. Launched into space August 25, 2003, Spitzer has been obtaining spectacular images in the infrared spectra radiated by objects in space. Spitzer provides an important scientific complement to the Hubble Space Telescope and the Chandra X-Ray Observatory in the study of a wide variety of astronomical phenomena, extending from our Solar System to the distant reaches of the early Universe.

Raytheon-Pasadena has been providing support to the Spitzer Science Operations System (SOS) since its development phase prior to launch. It is currently supporting the SOS in the areas of:

  • Systems Engineering
  • Software and Database Development
  • Configuration Management
  • Integration, Test, and Delivery to Operations
SIM Images SIM The Space Interferometry Mission/PlanetQuest (SIM/PQ) project is part of NASA's Navigator Program in support of the Astronomical Search for Origins Theme. SIM is earmarked for launch as early as 2011 and will be utilizing optical interferometry to provide the positions and proper motions of stars several hundred times more accurately than any previous program. The SIM Science Operations System (SOS) is responsible for performing all of the science observation planning and scheduling of the SIM instrument and processing of the instrument science data into science data products for distribution to the SIM science investigators. The SOS is also responsible for implementing ground based observing tasks and science proposal solicitation and selection in preparation for the SIM/PQ five year nominal mission.

Raytheon-Pasadena supports the SIM SOS design, development and implementation effort in the following areas:

  • Systems Engineering
  • Software Management and Development Planning
  • Configuration Management Planning
  • Integration and Test Planning
